Actor
and film director Nawaf Al-Janahi received
the Most Promising Emirati Filmmaker award at Dubai
International Film Festival 2009.
This award is in
recognition of Nawaf Al-Janahi's overall work as a film director.
Masoud Amralla, the Artistic Director of the festival, commented:
"Nawaf is an intelligent film director, and has contributed from the
beginning in creating and supporting the Emirati film movement .. he
deserves the award." The festival screened Al-Janahi's first
feature-length film 'The Circle', which was the second screening of
the film in the UAE after its world premiere at the Gulf Film
Festival last April, where critics described it as "a major turning
point in Emirati and Gulf cinema".

by UAE University in Al-Ain, and as part of an honorary
night for the Emirati Cinema, Nawaf Al-Janahi's 'Mirrors of Silence'
and three other films ('Bint Alnotkitha' by Khalid Al-Mahmood,
'Door' by Waleed Al-Shehhi, and 'Tenbak' by Abdullah Hasan Ahmed) will be screened on 28 April 2009 as part of the Literature
and Arts Festival organized by the Academic Integration Network.
'The Circle' in the Gulf Film Festival 2009

The newest film by
Emirati film director Nawaf Al-Janahi is his first feature length film
entitled
'The Circle'. The film, which was
shot in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and considered to be MBC's first feature fiction
production, shows mainly the relationship between death and destiny. The
story evolves around Ibrahim, a journalist and an author, and Shehab, a
professional thief, who meet accidentally just to begin seeing the world
with different perspectives.
The audience is invited
to attend the premiere of the film at the second edition of the Gulf Film
Festival, which will be held in Dubai from 9 to 15 April 2009. The screening
details are as follows:
